Maritime fight fans are about to be treated to a very special evening of Pro boxing come Saturday, March 2nd in Moncton. Over the past three or four years, several different promotors have gone all out in their effort to help rebuild the “Sport of Champions” after it just about died a painful death. A number of exciting young fighters have come along to thrill fans with some great fights held in the Hub City. Now comes the great news of what promises to be a card that could very well be second to none in 2013 in Canada.
Moncton’s Last Round Boxer will present “March of Champions” at the Moncton Lions Club with a total of five championship bouts taking place on the same night. LRB has gone all out to put together what could very well be the biggest night of Pro boxing ever held in Moncton. A number of Canada’s top upcoming boxers will be showcased in two-10 round Canadian championship fights as well as two other title bouts.
The evening’s Main Event will feature BC’s, sharp boxing, hard hitting Roberto McLellan with a record of six wins, 1 loss and 1 drawn with 3 KO’S taking on Kitchener ON’s Fitz Vanderpool in a scheduled 10 round National Boxing Authority Canadian Middle-weight championship bout.. The McLellan-Vanderpool bout promises to be a classic match-up between the upcoming McLellan and the veteran Vanderpool, a former World champ. Both are good fast punchers with loads of boxing skills and great chins. No doubt that this bout will be action packed from start to finish.
The evening’s co-feature will see the National Boxing Authority Canadian Super Welterweight Championship on the line with Rory Coveney of Edmonton, Alberta going up against Francesco Cotroni Jr., Mascouche, Quebec. This bout was originally slated for Haliafx and rescheduled to March 2nd when the card fell through. The National Boxing Authority and Last Round Boxer stepped in to make sure the fight would go on. These fighters earned that right – they were ready to go in and do their thing. It’s an unfortunate thing that happens in boxing from time to time. These are two deserving prospects and it’s simply the right thing to do under the circumstances. These two will not have to look for each other once the bell rings. Bombs Away!
A scheduled eight round National Boxing Authority Eastern Canadian Cruiser-weight championship bout will see the undefeated Alexander “Sandy” Robb (former three time Scottish National Amateur champ), now based out of the Hub City taking on the hard hitting, tough as nails former Canadian champ, Frank White from Brantford ON. These two will no doubt stand toe to toe and trade big shots all night. The winner will be in line for a Canadian championship fight in the near future.
Another eight rounder will have former Canadian Super Middle-weight champ, Ron Savoie of Eel River Crossing facing Shediac’s Marcel Maillet Jr., in a NBA Maritime Super Welter-weight title match-up. These two fought to a six round draw in November in a very crowd pleasing fight that could have gone either way. They were given a well earned standing ovation at the closing bell for their spirited effort and they will no doubt pick right up where they left off the last time.
The evening’s opening bout will see Edmundston’s Denis Martin taking on Durham Bridge’s Marshall Norrad in a four round Light Heavy-weight match-up.In all, fans will be treated to a total of 50 rounds of Pro boxing.
Brandon Brewer (5-0-1 2 KO) of Fredericton faces off against Glisandy Rosario Majei (3-1-0 2 KO) of Montreal in a 6-round middleweight contest. Both fighters have exciting styles that will keep the fans on their edge of their seats. Brandon won his most recent matches with a convincing 6-round unanimous decision over Teddy Reno on February 2, 2013 in Moncton. Reno was down in the first round and fought a strategic bout against the ever aggressive Brewer.
