Da Beat BJ Lacy Defeats Adam Vanderveen and Wayman Carter Submits Heath Rud at Driller Promotions – A-Town Throwdown IX
BJ Lacy def. Adam Vanderveen by unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28) — Da Beast is back!!! This was one of the night’s more technical, even fights. Several times in all three rounds, Vanderveen had Lacy on the ropes, on the verge of getting the finish. But Da Beast came back from the dead each time. He’s a savvy vet, and it showed throughout. Lacy got the unanimous decision win in a good, even fight. His late take downs were the difference.
Wayman Carter def. Heath Rud by submission due to injury (shoulder) at :27 of first round — This was a devastating end to an otherwise glorious night. Rud rolled awkwardly after a takedown, and you could see/hear his shoulder pop. It was bad, really bad. He tapped from the pain and screamed … his shoulder badly dislocated. There also was some sort of fracture involved with his shoulder, and they weren’t able to get his shoulder back in the socket for nearly three hours. Ugh. Rud is out indefinitely, but hopefully he can come back from this and make another run, because he’s certainly got the talent. Carter is a true pro, though. His team was great, from start to finish, and he’s a guy I hope we can get back to Minnesota very, very soon. Though I’m not sure the rest of the 185ers in Minnesota want that.
