Unbeaten welterweight “Platinum” Mike Perry headlines House of Fame’s third MMA event this Friday, July 10, live on GFL.tv

Undefeated welterweight aspires to be the “Floyd Mayweather of MMA”

By Dante Giannetta

“I’m going to walk right through him. I’m going to knock him out. He can’t survive my storm. My storm doesn’t stop,” says unbeaten welterweight (170 pounds) “Platinum” Mike Perry (2-0) who is certain his main event MMA fight against Preston Parsons will end in his favor at “House of Fame 3: Riverside Beatdown,” which will stream live on GFL.tv from Jacksonville, Fla. on Friday, July 10.

“I know what he wants to do is wrestle me,” Perry says with a calculated casualness. “[Parsons] is gonna want to ground and pound and submit me, but he’s dreamin’. He’s not gonna touch me.”

These words were spoken with a measured calmness which Perry later attributes to successfully overcoming anger management issues.

Although Perry is Friday night’s headliner, he feels no pressure about being in the spotlight.

“The bigger the show, the better I perform. If the fight were to go past the first round, I’ll just get more and more comfortable. If it goes into the later rounds, sure it’ll be exciting. But it’s just gonna be all me. I’m gonna find my range, and once I do, I’m gonna knock him out.”

‘Platinum,’ according to Perry, is a nickname that suits him perfectly.

“I’m so absorbent,” he explains. “It’s the most expensive and most desired thing in the world. You can’t hit me hard enough to hurt me – indestructible.”

He laughingly adds, “It’s like ‘Iron’ Mike Tyson, but twice the skill.”

And double the ambition. Platinum’s aspirations are inspired by another boxing great. “I want to be the Floyd Mayweather of MMA – go 40-0 and knock ‘em all out!”

With a 2-0 professional record, 38 more wins might seem like a stretch. But Perry is adamant and insists that he his still way ahead of his competition.

“No one has my physical ability. No one trains as hard as me. No one has the strength and speed I do. And look at my physique. I even have a national level bodybuilder’s body and I don’t even try. I don’t even lift weights. I lift people.”

According to Perry, lifting (and throwing) people is easier when he cuts weight. “When I was an amateur, I would bump up in weight and fight the bigger guys. Now I cut weight and when these little guys hit me it’s like a bug bite. I grab them and do whatever I want.”

For Perry, squashing bugs in the cage is all to serve God.

“I’m fighting for God. I want to be strong for Him. I want to be the general of His army. I want to train the angel soldiers to defeat the devil. I’m training for that now.”

Down the road, Platinum is sure he can make it into the UFC, although he admits he may not be ready for a world championship just yet.

“But I have all the tools to get me there,” he says.

“I’ll tell you what,” he continues, “I would like to do some work with Anthony Pettis. He’s a great fighter.”

But then, he warns, “Watch out for ‘Platinum’ Mike Perry on the rise.”

DiBella Entertainment (DBE) and New Legend Boxing have officially announced the co-promotional signings of one of New York’s most promising undefeated prospects. Junior lightweight Bryant “Peewee” Cruz (9-0, 5KO’s) has inked an exclusive promotional contract with the promotional outfits this week.

“I am thrilled to officially become part of the DBE and New Legend teams,” said Cruz. “I have had the opportunity to fight on cards staged by both of the promotional companies in the past, and to now officially be part of their roster is truly an honor. I want to thank my manager Kevin Crowley and trainer Ryan O’Leary for helping me get to this point. Like every fighter, my dream is to become world champion and I know this is the team that will give me that opportunity.”

A finalist at the 2012 National Golden Gloves, the Westchester County-native Cruz has quickly become one of the biggest draws in New York thanks in part to his backing by Westchester County’s most popular restaurant/bar chains (Mickey, Molly and Maggie Spillane’s). Cruz turned pro in December 2012 and fought eight times in his first full year as a pro. Cruz is coming off of his most impressive victory to date, a six-round unanimous decision in an absolute war over once-beaten Joshua Reyes. Cruz will be featured on DiBella Entertainment’s upcoming Broadway Boxing card on Thursday, April 10, at B.B. King Blues Club and Grill in NYC.

GFL PRESENTS “REAL FIGHTS” ON THE COMCAST NETWORK (TCN) & COMCAST SPORTSNET (CSN)

POWER PRODUCTIONS PRESENTS “NEW BEGINNINGS:  MOSES MOLINAS VS MILTON SANTIAGO” BEGINNING FEBRUARY 24

February 21, 2013

Greg Robinson’s Power Productions will present a special night of professional boxing at the National Guard Armory in Northeast Philadelphia. In the special 4-round main event, 17 year-old Milton Santiago Jr. will make his anticipated pro debut against Moses Molina in a Jr. Welterweight bout. Santiago of Warminster, Pennsylvania had an amateur record of 184-12 and won a staggering 59 tournaments is ready for the occasion. “I feel great and this is a dream come true. I believe that I am the youngest professional in Pennsylvania.” Santiago has been preparing with professionals and is not worried about going into the paid ranks. “I spar with a lot of professionals,” said Santiago. “They are all grown men and I beat them up. I feel I am very strong and I am ready to turn pro.” Santiago started boxing at 5-years old and had his first fight at 8. A Junior at William Tennant High School, Santiago will have support from the school faculty in the crowd.

“My English teacher will be at the fight. When some of my teachers found out what I do, they were happy for me and shocked. Boxing helps a lot with school because it helps me stay focused with both studying and boxing.”

Santiago says he likes watching Floyd Mayweather, Andre Ward, Guillermo Rigondeaux and Felix Trinidad.  He also receives a lot of moral support and advice from some of the top professionals in Philadelphia.

“Hassan Young gives me good advice but I also talk with Jesse Hart, Bryant Jennings and Danny Garcia as well.”

Outside of the ring, Santiago is your typical kid as he enjoys playing video games with his brothers and playing sports in the neighborhood.

“I have been wanting to turn pro for a while now and I cannot wait until February 7th.”

His dad, Milton Santiago Sr. is his trainer and explains his reasons for his son get the special dispensation to turn pro.

“This would have been his last year with headgear in the amateurs anyway. After January 1st, he would have had to fight without it.  He isn’t your typical 17-year old. He spars very well with the older professionals. There have been promoters who told me they could not believe he is 17. He is so relaxed in the ring. To him it is just like unwrapping a candy bar. In fact sometimes in the corner, he has to tell me to calm down,” said the older Santiago.

Santiago will fight this fight at the 140-pound weight limit but he plans to campaign as a Lightweight in the future.

GFL REAL FIGHTS Presents Joey Eye Boxing & XFE “Ferrante VS Smith” Beginning Feb. 10 on TCN & CSN

GFL PRESENTS “REAL FIGHTS” ON THE COMCAST NETWORK (TCN) & COMCAST SPORTSNET (CSN)

JOEY EYE BOXING & XFE PRESENT “ANTHONY FERRANTE VS ANTHONY SMITH” BEGINNING FEBRUARY 10

February 7, 2013

GFL and Comcast SportsNet continue their weekly combat sports series, REAL FIGHTS, with world class championship boxing returns to TCN and CSN as it presents a loaded card from Harrah’s Philadelphia in Chester, Pennsylvania with XFE: Anthony Ferrante vs Anthony Smith.  ROC continues to be the linchpin of East Coast MMA and reasserts its dominance as the top dog in the Tri-State area.

The main event of the evening is an ALL PHILLY showdown between 2 tough & rugged local fighters. Anthony Ferrante (12-4) is set to do battle with Anthony Caputo Smith over the course of 10 rounds for the USA Pennsylvania state Cruiserweight Title.

Ferrante is making his return to the ring after a year absence that was plagued with controversy. After winning the biggest fight of his career against Isa Akberayev, a post-fight drug test came back positive. Ferrante then was in the toughest fight of his career against the NYSAC, spending his own money to appeal, which he lost and was forced to serve a year suspension. Ferrante argued any wrong doing and plans to get his career back on track when he takes on Caputo Smith. A win here could start the rebuilding phase of his career in which he hopes will lead to a title shot.

Caputo Smith is coming off a loss to top rated Light Heavyweight prospect Sean Monoghan (18-0) which took place on the Timothy Bradley – Juan Manuel Marquez undercard. Caputo Smith was proving to be Monoghan’s toughest test yet before being stopped in the 3rd round in a barn burner. After being sent back to the drawing board, Caputo Smith plans to get his career back on track when he faces Ferrante. A win here LIVE in front of the WORLD on GFL.tv could re position Caputo Smith into another big fight.

Both men are seeking REDEMPTION in the ring so fans can expect an all-out war where both men will leave it all in the ring!

Another undefeated prospect Naim Nelson (10-0) looks to keep his winning streak alive when he faces veteran spoiler Christian Steele (4-7-2). Nelson who is a skillful boxer is expecting 2014 to be his breakthrough year but for that to happen he has to breakthrough Steele’s armor. Nelson, who has yet to taste defeat as a pro, has made a name for himself as one of the top prospects Philadelphia has to offer while Steele has been known to upset highly touted prospects. Steele upset undefeated Lonnie Jackson Jr in his last fight and knows he needs to upset Nelson in order keep getting quality payday while Nelson knows a victory could lead to a very busy and fruitful 2014. Regardless expect a war because, though different things, both men have a lot to lose.

2011 Middleweight World Amateur Champion, Ievgen Khytrov, of Fight Promotions Inc., steps in the ring for the 2nd time in his young pro career. Khytrov, who many expect to be the next “GGG”, will face off with Romon Barber (4-6) in a 6 round featured bout. Many insiders have high hopes for Khytrov who is a well-rounded fighter that hits like a mule. Fans can surely expect a highlight reel KO.

GFL PRESENTS “REAL FIGHTS” ON THE COMCAST NETWORK (TCN) & COMCAST SPORTSNET (CSN)

GREEN BLOOD BOXING PRESENTS “IRISH CHRISTMAS FIGHT PARTY: TEVIN FARMER VS CARLOS VINAN” BEGINNING JANUARY 13

January 9, 2013

GFL, The Comcast Network and Comcast SportsNet continue their weekly combat sports series, REAL FIGHTS, with world class championship boxing as Irish Christmas Fight Party: Farmer VS Vinan takes center stage at the EconoLodge Conference Center in Allentown, Pennsylvania.

In the main event, returning to the ring for the 7th time in 12 months, Philadelphia’s Tevin Farmer (13-4).  Farmer has built a very impressive 6 fight winning streak since losing in 2012 to undefeated prospect Jose Pedraza (10-0).  In his last bout, Farmer outpointed undefeated prospect Camilo Perez (9-0).  His opponent will be battle tested veteran Carlos Vinan (10-11-5).  Vinan has dropped two straight to former World title challenger Teon Kennedy (17-2-2), in a bout that was nominated for GFL “2013 Boxing Fight of the Year”, and undefeated prospect Mark Davis (17-0).  Vinan has also shared the ring with former World Title challengers Eloy Perez, Mercito Gesta, Diego Magdaleno, and Ray Beltran.  Both Farmer and Vinan are on different paths in the boxing world but both need to be successful here so boxing fans can expect a war!

Also, returning to the ring for the 1st time in over 2 years will be former Jr Middleweight Champion & Former Middleweight title challenger, Kasim Ouma (27-8-1).  Ouma, who was once a Ugandan child soldier before becoming a pro boxer, has had many ups & downs throughout his career.  In 2004, he defeated Verno Phillips (38-8-1) to capture the IBF Jr. Middleweight title.  A title he successfully defended once before dropping a 12 round decision to Roman Karmazin in 2005.  In 2006, Ouma had his best year defeated former World Title challenger Marco Antonio Rubio (34-2-1) as well as highly touted then Undefeated prospect Sechew Powell (20-0) on HBO.  Those fights led to a 2006 showdown with WBC & WBO Middleweight Champion Jermaine Taylor (25-0-1), in which Ouma dropped a 12 round decision.  Ouma has taken a much needed break from the ring and is returning better than ever when he faces Rahman Mustafa Yusubov (9-12).  Yusubov has been in the ring with a who’s who list in the 154/160 divisions.  Yusubov is a guy who always shows up to fight and will try to pull the “Upset of the Year” when he faces Ouma.

Also on tap will be Belfast bred, Philly based Tyrone “Bones” McKenna (2-0) who battles journeyman Jeffrey Combs (2-10) in what is sure to be a barnburner.  McKenna is a rising star while Combs is looking to knock off the young upstart.  Expect to see McKenna utilize his technical skill set while Combs looks for the one haymaker that can change the fight.

If you love the sweet science then this boxing extravaganza is a must see.

“Sugar” Shane Mosley takes off the boxing gloves and puts on his promoter’s hat for “Ultimate MMA Showdown” a scheduled 10-bout MMA card showcasing the top up and coming amateurs of mixed martial arts.  Mosley held world titles in three weight divisions in boxing, making him one of the sport’s brightest stars ever.  Mosley is determined to have the same impact on MMA as he did in boxing only this time as a promoter putting on some of the biggest events instead of headlining them.

In the main event, in the heavyweight division, Sergio Marroquin (2-0) fights Luis Cruz (1-0).  Marroquin is a heavy puncher and put to sleep his two opponents via KO in spectacular fashion.  Marroquin is a big heavyweight and loves to sit down on his punches and make the fight a brawl.  Cruz also packs dynamite in both of his hands as his victory came via KO in only six seconds!  Don’t blink when these two brahma bulls lock horns as there are sure to be plenty of fireworks as long as it lasts.  Someone is going down hard!

In other action, two other heavyweights square off as it will be Miguel Cortorreal versus Kenosha Saunders with both men making their MMA debuts.  Cortorreal trains out of Kihon MMA while Saunders is from Joe Stevenson’s Cobra Kai gym.  Both of these gladiators are looking at making a splash in the sport and who knows, the winner of this bout could face the winner of the main event down the road with a title on the line.

Two other fighters will be stepping into the cage for the first time when 26 year old Frederick Payne Jr squares off against 18 year old Jamal Pogues in a light heavyweight bout.  Payne Jr trains with Global Force Fitness where he is known for his all-around game.  Pogues is out of Joe Stevenson’s Cobra Kai and is one of the most athletic fighters to hit the cage in recent memory.

Other fighters scheduled to compete include:  Cole Bates, Lindsey Arcangel, Raul Hernandez, Anthony Weller, James Adamson, Johnny Fiedler, Steven Hartman, Roberto Hernandez, Dale Jackson and more.

Don’t miss this stacked card featuring some of the top amateur fighters of California emanating from the Mosley Manor in Pomona, California.  Watch the champions of tomorrow compete today on this stacked card as Sugar Shane Mosley Promotions delivers its inaugural event, on January 18, streaming live on pay-per-view exclusively at GFL.tv!

GFL REAL FIGHTS Presents “Johnson VS Gunn” Beginning on January 6 on TCN & CSN

GFL PRESENTS “REAL FIGHTS” ON THE COMCAST NETWORK (TCN) & COMCAST SPORTSNET (CSN)

GOFIGHTLIVE PRESENTS “JOHNSON VS GUNN” BEGINNING JANUARY 6

January 6, 2013

GFL, The Comcast Network and Comcast SportsNet continue their weekly combat sports series, REAL FIGHTS, with world class championship boxing as Johnson VS Gunn takes center stage at the Sands in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.

In the main event, Glen “The Road Warrior” Johnson (52-18-2, 36 KOs), of Miami, Florida battles Bobby “The Celtic Warrior” Gunn (21-5-1, 18 KOs), 40, of Hackensack, New Jersey for the WBU Cruiserweight Championship.  Johnson is a former light heavyweight champion whose biggest victory was a stunning 9th round KO of former P4P King Roy Jones Jr. in their 2004 world title showdown.  Johnson now looks to add another title to his collection by taking on the tough and gritty Gunn.  These two seasoned pugilist will go toe to toe for a scheduled 8 rounds.  Johnson fought most of his career at light heavyweight while Gunn has always been a naturally bigger fighter.  When these two clash in the ring, you can bet these vets will bring out the best in one another.  A solid win by Johnson could put him in line for a rematch against Bernard Hopkins that Johnson has been chasing for years so the stakes are high when Johnson and Gunn face off.

In the co-main event, Miguel Cartagena fights Eduardo Valenzuela in a super flyweight title.  Cartagena is a highly touted prospect but faces a very durable and technical fighter in Valenzuela who has made a career off of beating the odds.  This fight will be a great test of how far Cartagena has come and how far he has to go.  Don’t blink when these two start throwing leather.

If you love the sweet science then this is a must see.

GFL PRESENTS “REAL FIGHTS” ON THE COMCAST NETWORK (TCN) & COMCAST SPORTSNET (CSN)

DOVER DOWNS HOTEL & CASINO PRESENTS “FRIDAY NIGHT FIGHTS MANSOUR VS HARRIS” BEGINNING SEPTEMBER 23

September 19, 2013

GFL and Comcast SportsNet continue their weekly combat sports series, REAL FIGHTS with top ranked boxing, as Dover Downs Hotel & Casino showcases another soon to be talked about boxing extravaganza with Friday Night Fights – Mansour VS Harris featuring a full slate of hotly contested matchups inside the ring anchored by a main event with the enigmatic Amir “Hardcore” Mansour (18-0) versus Maurice “Sugar Moe” Harris (26-17-2)

Amir Mansour’s has suffered many setbacks in his pro boxing career and none of which were suffered inside of the ring but Mansour will not allow past issues to deter his dream of carrying the Heavyweight Championship. For most the age 41 signifies the end of a career but in Mansour’s case it is different. Mansour has not taken punishment throughout his career like his counterpart. Not to mention most of “Hardcore’s” in ring encounters never make it the distance.

Mansour carries vicious power in both hands. He has the ability to stop any man who is standing across from him when the opening bell sound. A win here will not only capture the USBA HW title but will ensure him a top 15 ranking in the IBF positioning him for a showdown with current IBF HW Champion Wladimir Klitschko.  Most likely, this encounter will be the last chance saloon for the 37 year old battle-tested Harris. A win here could lead to one last run at his dream of conquering the HW title. Recently he defeated Jason Bergman, via close split decision, in Bergman’s hometown.

If you love constant action this is a must see event.  Dover Downs Hotel & Casino always puts on great shows and Friday Night Fights – Mansour VS Harris will be another homerun.

GFL PRESENTS “REAL FIGHTS” ON THE COMCAST NETWORK (TCN) & COMCAST SPORTSNET (CSN)

KING’S PROMOTIONS PRESENTS “WAR AT THE FORGE 3” BEGINNING SEPTEMBER 9

September 5, 2013

GFL and Comcast SportsNet continue their weekly combat sports series, REAL FIGHTS, with world class MMA as Cage Fury Fighting Championships returns to Atlantic City to present another loaded card with War at the Forge III.   CFFC has quickly set itself apart on the regional MMA scene by expanding its footprint up and down the Eastern seaboard while running shows at a furious pace.  This event is another home run for CFFC as the card will be anchored by two titles fights!

In the Main Event of the evening, #13 ranked WBA Heavyweight and hellacious hitting machine Travis Kauffman (24-1) faces off with rugged journeyman Arron Lyons (12-12-1).  Kauffman, will look to continue his 6 fight winning streak since losing a highly controversial fight to Tony Grano in 2009. The fight against Grano was an exciting fight with back and forth action but the ending was plagued with controversy. Grano was dropped and injured but resorted to using illegal tactics to stay in the fight. Then some ringside observers thought Grano appeared to have thrown Kauffman to the ground illegally but the ref counted out Kauffman resulting in a TKO loss.

The result of the fight was then appealed to the CA State Athletic Commission to no avail. This result hasn’t deterred the HW prospect, who has put together 6 straight victories and is looking for number 7 at the Valley Forge Casino & Resort.

Kauffman’s opponent, Arron Lyons will do anything in his power not to allow Kauffman to continue his winning streak. Lyons is on a 3 fight skid, but they were to previously undefeated Kelvin Price (12-0), WBA #2 Luis Ortiz (12-0), and contender Damian Willis (29-2-1). Lyons is also no stranger to upsetting his opponents stopping then undefeated Joey Abell (9-0) in the 1st round of their first encounter as well as stopping Lenroy Thomas (16-1-1) in the 4th round of their showdown. Lyons also held undefeated Wilmer Vasquez (9-0-2) to a draw.

Lyons will surely not be an easy foe for Kauffman, who will be looking to put the heavyweight division on notice with an impressive victory! A win for Kauffman could catapult him into a big fight against some of America’s top prospects such as Deontay Wilder, Seth Mitchell, or Bryant Jennings. If you love constant action War at the Forge III is a must see event.

ROY JONES JR IN ASSOCIATION WITH TNT PROMOTIONS PRESENTS “SPADAFORA VS FRANKEL” BEGINNING MAY 6

May 2, 2013

GFL and Comcast continue their weekly combat sports series, REAL FIGHTS, with championship boxing, as 8-Time World Champion Roy Jones Jr. & TNT Promotions presents Spadafora VS Frankel at the Mountaineer Casino, Racetrack & Resort featuring a full lineup of hotly contested matchups inside the ring.

In the main event, the vacant WBC (NABF) Super Lightweight Championship will be on the line when undefeated former IBF & IBC World Champion Paul “The Pittsburgh Kid” Spadafora (47-0-1) steps into the ring with former WBC (USNBC) Champion “Red Hot” Rob Frankel of Denver, Colorado.  In what would be an astonishing feat, Spadafora looks to claim his 48th victory without a loss, the longest undefeated streak among any active boxer in the world today, and claim another Championship Title, pushing him back to the top of the Super Lightweight Division.  A decisive victory over the rugged Frankel could position Spadafora for the big money fight he has been craving.  With Roy Jones Jr. behind him, Spadafora believes he could soon be facing fighters like Rios, Alvarado, Broner & Garcia.

But Spadafora faces his toughest test to date since restarting his career as the Mile High City’s favorite Frankelcomes storming into the bout winning 4 of his last 5 with his lone defeat a tough decision to #1 Contender Cleotis Pendarvis.  Frankel has forever yearned for a shot at Spadafora, which he earned in January with a dominating performance over previous Spadafora foe Jermaine White.  A victory against Spadafora will lead to bigger paydays and more recognition for Frankel who has been knocking on the door to superstardom for some time.
